KINGSTON, ONT –
Eric Uba and
Brandon Frattaroli each tallied twice and added a helper as McGill doubled the Royal Military College Paladins 6-3 to push its win streak to four in OUA men's hockey, at Constantine Arena, Friday.
It was the fourth win in the last five meetings with RMC for McGill, which improved to 77-10-4 lifetime in a series that dates all the way back to 1892.
The Redbirds went 4-for 5 on the power-play. It was the most PPGs scored in a game since McGill tallied four in a wild 7-6 season opening loss to RMC last year on Oct. 14, 2022. The school record is six, which has occurred on three occasions (vs Montreal Victorias, Jan. 31/34, St. Thomas, Oct. 10/92, Toronto, Nov. 12/93).
McGill also killed of five of six shorthanded situations and now leads the 19-team OUA in both power-play (33.3%) and penalty-killing (93.1%).
RMC actually had a 37-27 edge in shots but the Redbirds never trailed, leading 2-1 after the first period and 5-2 after two.
Uba, who now has four goals and eight points in seven games, strike twice with the man-advantage, putting the redbirds ahead 2-0 and 5-2. Frattaroli, who has nine points in seven games, including four markers, tallied the other two PPGs, connecting just 37 seconds apart early in the second period to put his side up 4-1.
Rounding out the McGill scoring were freshmen
Xavier Fortin and
Patrick Larking, both of whom registered their first career goals in league play. They each scored once in the preseason too.
Replying for the Paladins was Nathan Fox, Austin Saint and Wil Murray.
Goaltender
Fabio Iacobo kicked aside 34 of 37 shots to earn his first career victory in OUA play, evening his record to 1-1. RMC's Joe Ingram-Chambers conceded six goals and 27 shots and took the loss.
The Redbirds, who got off to an 0-2-1 start, improved to 4-2-1 in the OUA East and sit in sixth place, only three points behinds behind third-place Queen's (6-3-0). McGill will get a chance to close that gap when they take on the Gaels in a Saturday (Nov. 4) matinee at 2:30 p.m. The game will be streamed for free on
