MONTREAL –Goaltender
Sarah Carmichael of St. Lazare, Que., posted a career-high 47 saves but it was all in vain as McGill fell 5-1 to No.1 ranked Concordia, which extended its win streak to 12 in women's hockey at the Ed Meagher Arena, Saturday.
This marked the fifth-time reaching the 40-save plateau for the 5-foot-5 pharmacology junior, who surpassed her previous best of 46 stops in a 7-2 setback to Ottawa on Jan. 20, 2023.
The Stingers, who lead the RSEQ conference with an unblemished 12-0 record, outshot McGill 52-13, including a 24-2 margin in the first period. Concordia led 2-1 after the opening stanza and 4-1 after two.
Concordia was 2-for-4 on the power-play, while McGill was 0-for-2.
Five different scorers found the net for the home team, including
Emmy Fecteau,
Chloe Gendreau,
Zoe Thibault,
Jessymaude Drapeau and
Noemie Gaudreault.
McGill's lone goal was an unassisted marker from
Sarah-Maude Lavoie, a sophomore from Victoriaville, Que., who tallied her team-leading third of the season overall.
Stingers netminder
Arianne Leblanc kicked aside 12 of 13 shots for the win.
Both teams return to play on Dec. 2, with Bishop's (7-5) at McGill (2-10) in a 2 p.m. start and Ottawa (4-5-2) at Concordia (12-0) in a 3 p.m. puck-drop.
