weekend
LENNNOXVILLE, QUE –
Audrey Moyen of St. Hubert, Que., scored the game-winner and goalkeeper
Sophie Guilmette of Ahuntsic, Que., collected her league-leading sixth shutout as the McGill women's soccer squad blanked Bishop's 1-0 at Coulter Field, Friday, heading into Thanksgiving weekend.
The result extended McGill's lifetime undefeated record against Bishop's to 59-0-4 since the Gaiters joined the league in 1992.
Moyen, a 26-year-old doctorate student in human nutrition who previously earned an undergrad (BSc '19) and master's degree (MSc '21) from McGill, converted a pass from defender
Ariel Carignan to score the games's only goal in the 18th minute of play. She is the 11th different player to score for the Martlets over their 11 games played to date.
It was a wide open contest with BU holding a 15-12 advantage in attempted shots, including a 9-5 margin on net.
Guilmette, a second-year master's student in kinesiology and physical education, was credited with nine saves for the win. The 5-foot-6 'keeper upped her season record to 6-2-3 with a stingy 0.73 goals-against average.
McGill was assessed all four cards issued by the referee, with three of them handed to
Elisabeth Pronovost, who received a pair of yellow cards and an automatic red, all in the last two minutes of the contest. As a result, she will have to sit out the next game.
The Martlets (6-2-3) remain third in the eight-team RSEQ conference, two points behind the Montreal Carabins (7-2-2). With three games left before playoffs, McGill will host division-leading Laval (9-0-1) on Friday, Oct. 13, in a game that will surely be bad luck for one of those teams. The Martlets will close out the campaign with a road game at UQAM (Oct. 15), followed by a home affair against Sherbrooke (Oct. 22).
