MONTREAL –
Lily Rose Chatila of Quebec City, scored 17 points as McGill defeated Brock 63-58 on the final day of the McGill Classic women's basketball tournament at Love Competition Hall, Sunday.
The result improved the Martlets record to 4-2 in preseason play. McGill had opened the tourney on Friday with a 67-60 loss to UNB. They had a bye on Saturday as Bishop's had previously indicated that it was unable to play on that day. With the unbalanced format, there was no official champion declared ond no tourney MVP was selected.
Chatila an anatomy and cellular biology freshman, was McGill's lone player selected to the all-tournament team. It was here second such award in as many tournaments. The 5-foot-7 guard scored 29 points in the two tourney games. She added three rebounds, four assists and four steals. She shot 50 per cent from the field (10/20), including a 5-for-14 performance from the three-point arc, and went 3-for-6 from the charity stripe.
McGill opens the RSEQ season at UQAM on Nov. 2, followed by the official home opener on Nov. 9 against Bishop's.
