MONTREAL -- Goalkeeper
Sophie Guilmette of Ahuntsic, Que., posted a two-save shutout as McGill settled for a 0-0 draw with UQAM in women's soccer at Stade Saputo, Sunday.
The result clinched third place for McGill (6-2-5), which sits five points ahead of UQAM (5-5-3) with one game left before playoffs. The Martlets will meet second-place Montreal (8-3-2) in a conference semifinal on Oct. 27.
It marked the fifth deadlock of the campaign, matching the school's single-season record of five ties in league play, previously accomplished in 2007 and 2010. The RSEQ record is six ties, shared by UQAM (2017), UQTR (2018) and Bishop's (2022).
Three of this season's draws have been scoreless affairs, including both confrontations with UQAM.
For Guilmette, it was her league-leading seventh whitewash of the season and her 12th career clean sheet in 26 regular season contests. The 5-foot-6 'keeper owns a 6-2-5 record this season with a stingy 0.69 goals-against average and an .855 save percentage.
The total attempted shots were even at 4-4 and UQAM had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. Citadins netminder
Andreanne Dubeau also registered a two-save shutout.
Two yellow cards were issued by the referee, both of them to UQAM in the second half, including one to the coaching staff. The Citadins were flagged for 14 of the 23 fouls called.
UQAM will conclude its regular season against second-place Montreal (8-3-2) on Oct. 20.
McGill will close out the regular season schedule on Oct. 22 when Sherbrooke (4-5-4) visits Percival Molson Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. start. The Vert & Or (4-5-4) can still catch UQAM for the last playoff berth.
