Miraglia scores four goals as lacrosse Redbirds gallop past Gee-Gees to kickoff Homecoming

MONTREAL – John Miraglia of Memphis, Tenn., scored four goals and Isaiah Cree of Akwesasne, N.Y., added a hat-trick as McGill galloped past the Ottawa Gee-Gees 16-4 in a men's lacrosse Homecoming game at Percival Molson Stadium, Sunday.

The Redbirds led 3-0 after the first quarter, 7-1 at halftime and 10-2 after three stanzas, then outscored the visitors 6-2 in the final period. The entire Redbirds roster got into the game and nine different players scored for McGill, including both of the team's faceoff specialists.

Dylan James, a psychology senior from Little Britain, Ont., was in on six of McGill's goals, scoring once and setting up five others. The 5-foot-10 midfielder  upped his team-leading points total to 28, including 14 goals, which ranks fourth in the CUFLA East Division.

Teammates Mark Symon of New Canaan, Conn., and Montrealer Massimo Thauvette added two goals apiece, with singles going to Rowan Birrell, Joshua Jewell, Chris Koran and Samuel MacDonald.

Zachary Moen paced the Gee-Gees with a pair of markers, while Sean Kennedy and Layakwas Kennedy, unrelated, tallied one apiece.

Joseph Boehm, a fifth-year senior from Waterloo, Ont., started between the pipes for McGill, made five saves on six shots and was credited with the win. He was replaced at the 36:34 mark by Henry Komosa of Potomac, Mass., who made three saves on five shots. Freshman Calum Leaver-Preyra of  Etobicoke, Ont., played the final 10 minutes and conceded one goal on his only shot faced.

The Redbirds took seven of the 11 penalties called.
