MONTREAL – Goaltenders
Christopher Cinelli-Faia from McGill and
Olivier Rouleau of the Montreal Carabins both registered shutouts as the cros-town rivals battled to a scoreless draw in men's university soccer at Percival Molson Stadium, Sunday.
It was the Redbirds first point taken off UdeM in six years, dating back to a 0-0 draw at Stade CEPSUM on Sept. 15, 2017, and snapped the team's 11- game losing streak to Montreal. McGill's last point at point earned at home against the Carabins was a 0-0 draw on Oct. 19, 2014, ending an 0-7 streak at Molson Stadium.
It was the second appearance in as many games for Cinelli-Faia, a fifth-year senior from Dollard des Ormeaux, Que., who was credited with making three saves. This was his first clean sheet of the season and his fourth career goose-egg in regular season play.
McGill is 2-5-2 with three games remaining and sit four behind the last playoff berth, a spot currently held down by Laval (3-3-2) and Concordia (3-4-2). The Redbirds next game will be a critical visit from Laval on on Oct. 13 at 8:15 p.m. That follows with a game at UQAM on Oct. 15 and a home game against Sherbrooke on Oct. 22.
