KIRKLAND, Que. –
Chris Bodine hit a two-run double to highlight a three-run first inning as McGill cruised to a 4-1 victory and a doubleheader sweep over Ottawa Gees, at Parc des Benevoles, Saturday. The result extended McGill's win streak to six, improving its overall record to 10-4.
The Redbirds had four runs on eight hits with one error, while limiting Ottawa to one run on one hit and two errors. Bodine was one of top six men in the McGill batting order to collect one hit apiece. First baseman
Carlos Vallejos was the only multi-hit player, on either team, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
McGill starter
Caden Welch pitched five innings for the win, allowing one run on just one hit. He struck out seven and walked five. His no-hitter bid was broken up by Ottawa
right-fielder Evan Whiteway-Willard, whose infield hit led off the fourth inning.
Reliever
Donavan Worrall was credited with a save. he only walked one and struck out four of seven batters faced in his two innings of work.
McGill (10-4) was slated to play a doubleheader on Sunday at College Lafleche in Trois-Rivieres but early weather reports were not good and the twin-bill was postponed. The Redbirds will play next on Wednesday (Sept. 17) when they confront Concordia for the thirs time this season, with each side winning once. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Gary Carter Field in Parc Trudeau in Cote St. Luc.
