KIRKLAND, Que. – McGill rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to cap a wild rally en route to a 10-3 victory over visiting Ottawa in the opening game of a baseball doubleheader, Saturday, at Kirkland's Parc des Benevoles, in the West Island region of Montreal.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for McGill, which improved its record to 9-4 overall.
Auguste Guern and
Brad Marelich paced the McGill offence. Guern went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate, driving home two runs and scoring once. Marelich batted 2-for-4 and crossed the plate twice.
Tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the home side took advantage of some very erratic pitching from the Gee-Gees, which had a less than memorable inning, conceding seven runs on one hit, with four walks, four hit batsmen, a fielding error and a passed ball.
Reliever
Alastair Mitchell was credited with the victory in one inning of work. He allowing one run on one hit, while walking one and striking out one. Mitchell was the last of five relievers to pitch.
Starting on the mound for the Redbirds was
Gabriel Braun, who allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked four.
McGill can sweep Ottawa with a win in the nightcap, slated for a 3 p.m. start.
