MONTREAL –
Audrey-Anne Veillette scored twice and set up two other goals as the Montreal Carabins skated to a 5-1 victory over visiting McGill in RSEQ women's hockey at Arena CEPSUM, Friday.
The Carabins, who had a 38-16 edge in shots, led 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 after two.
Rounding out the Carabins scoring was
Raphaelle Pouliot with two, and
Joanie Garand.
The lone Martlets marker came from the stick of defenceman
Jaime Kastelic, a political science sophomore from Burlington, Ont., who tallied her first of the season and second career goal in 43 contests overall. The play was assisted by
Maika Lecavalier and
Quynn Campbell.
Four of McGill's 16 goals in league play have now been scored from the blueline crew.
Carabins netminder
Maude Desroches kicked out 15 of 16 shots for the win, while McGill sophomore
Sarah Carmichael made 33 saves in a losing cause.
Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power-play.
McGill (0-9-1) plays division-leading Concordia (8-2-0) on Saturday in a 7 p.m. puck-drop at the Complexe sportif Lacroix-Dutil CanAm in St. Georges, Que., a venue located about 106 kilometres south of Quebec City. The Martlets and Stingers play each other in a small town, one date per season, to promote the game to various youth groups who wouldn't normally be exposed to university hockey. There will be no streaming but live statistics will be available, as usual, on the McGill Athletics website.
The next game for the Carabins (7-2-1) will be a short "road" trip across town to Concordia on Nov. 27 for a first-place showdown at 2 p.m.
