ST. GEORGES, QUE – Goaltender
Alice Philbert registered a 23-save shutout and forward
Rosalie Begin-Cyr scored twice as No.2 ranked Concordia blanked McGill 6-0 before 605 fans, the largest women's hockey crowd of the season, at the Complexe Sportif Lacroix-Dutil, Saturday.
It was the third showcase game in five years as part of a joint pilot project to promote and grow the women's game outside of Montreal. The first two contests, played in 2018 and 2019, were held in Sherbrooke and featured McGill against the Montreal Carabins. The game was cancelled in each of the past two years due to the COVID pandemic.
The division-leading Stingers (9-2-0) were designated as the visiting team and had a 40-23 edge in shots. They scored twice in the first period, added three more in the second and one in the third.
Other marksmen for Concordia included
Brodi Levitt with the game-winner, rearguard
Alexandra-Anne Boyer, plus forwards
Megan Bureau-Gagnon and
Caroline Moquin-Joubert.
Sophomore
Sophie Lajeunesse started between the pipes for McGill and made 34 saves in a losing cause.
Concordia was 2-for-5 on the power-play, while McGill was 0-for-4.
Both teams return to action on Dec. 2. McGill (0-10-1) travels to the nation's capital to confront the third-place Ottawa Gee-Gees (7-3-1) in a 7 p.m. start. Concordia will host fourth-place Bishop's (5-2-3) at 7:30 p.m.
