MONTREAL -- McGill goalkeeper
Ludovyck Ciociola made eight saves and Concordia's
Jordy Kerlegrand registered six stops as the bitter cross-town rivals battled to a scoreless draw in men's soccer at Percival Molson Stadium, Thursday.
It was a testy affair that featured seven yellow cards, four of them issued to the Redbirds. Some 26 fouls were called in the contest, 16 of them to McGill.
Four McGill seniors, all of them midfielders, were playing their last home game and were honoured in a pregame ceremony. That group included
Jake Gerenraich, a mathematics and physics major from Chicago and
Gaetan Hamid, a native of Strasbourg, in France, who is majoring in anatomy and cellular biology.
Rounding out the foursome are a pair of Ottawa natives, namely
Boubacar Ouane, a political science major and
Jean-Marc Yao, an economics senior.
The result left McGill with a 2-6-3 record and a sixth-place standing in the seven-team RSEQ conference with one game remaining on the schedule. The Redbirds will close out a disappointing campaign on the road against last-place Sherbrooke (0-10-0) on Sunday (Oct. 23) at 1 p.m.
The fourth-place Stingers improved to 4-2-5 and sit two points ahead of fifth-place Laval (4-3-3) for the last playoff berth. Concordia will close out their regular season schedule by hosting the division-leading Montreal Carabins (7-1-2) on Sunday.
