SHERBROOKE --
Sophie Rashid-Cocker of Toronto, paced the McGill women's cross-country squad with a fourth-place finish at the Sherbrooke Invitational meet on Saturday.
The 4-foot-11 distance runner completed the eight-kilometre course in 32 minutes, 26 seconds. A neuroscience sophomore, she was one of only two Martlets in the competition, which meant that McGill had insufficient participants to place in the team scoring.
Teammate
Ruby Atkin, an exchange student from Melbourne, Australia, was 20th overall, with a time of 36:27.
Laval's
Jessy Lacourse posted a winning time of 30:13 to finish first of 30 women, followed by teammate
Jade Berube (31:13) and Sherbrooke's
Laurence Gauthier (32:11).
The Rouge et Or also placed runners in fourth, sixth and seventh, to score 20 points. Sherbrooke was second with 46, followed by UQTR (84) and Montreal (89).
Two races remain on the schedule, beginning with the RSEQ conference championship meet on Oct. 29, an 8k competition in Rawdon, Que. The season concludes with the U SPORTS national championship in Halifax, Nov. 12.
