SHERBROOKE --
Matthew Beaudet of Montreal led a podium sweep for the McGill men's cross-country team at the Sherbrooke Invitational meet, Saturday.
The Redbirds finished 1-2-3, plus seventh and 11th for a combined score of 24 points, outdistancing second-place Laval (49). Sherbrooke (57) was third of six teams, followed by UQAC (105), Montreal (116) and UQTR (154).
Beaudet, a 22-year-old electrical engineering junior from the NDG region of Montreal, finished first of 43 runners overall to collect his second race victory of the season and fourth at the university level since enrolling at McGill last season. The 5-foot-9, 145-pound distance runner completed the eight-kilometre course in 26 minutes flat.
Teammates
Tom Secheyron of Bellevue, Wash., and
Jack Stanley of Victoria, B.C., posted silver and bronze medal finishes, respectively.
Secheron, a political science sophomore, was clocked in 26:27, while Stanley, who is in his second year of a doctorate in quantitative life sciences, crossed the finish line in 26:33.
Rounding out the scoring for McGill was
Devin Chapple (7th, 27:30), a management sophomore from Toronto and
Jerome Jacques (11th, 27:55), a kinesiology freshman from St. Lambert, Que.
Two races remain on the schedule,beginning with the RSEQ conference championship meet on Oct. 29, an 8k competition in Rawdon, Que. The season concludes with the U SPORTS national championship in Halifax, Nov. 12.
