HOCKEY (w): Colizza continues torrid pace as top-ranked Martlets get grip on Gaiters

MONTREAL – Christiana Colizza of Sault Ste. Marie., Ont., scored once and added a helper to lead No.1 ranked McGill past Bishop's 4-1 in women's hockey at McConnell Arena, Friday.

It was the seventh consecutive victory for the Martlets, who improved to 10-2 overall, including a perfect 5-0 in RSEQ regular season play.

McGill, which dominated the shots department by a 46-19 margin, scored first yet found themselves locked in a 1-1 saw-off after the first period. They bounced back with three unanswered goals, scoring once in the middle stanza and twice in the final frame. The Martlets were 3-for-6 on the power-play and erased all four shorthanded situations.

Sarah Carmichael, a 5-foot-5 goaltender from St. Lazare, Que., made 18 saves to register a win in her first career start for the Martlets. The 21-year-old pharmacology freshman is a product of College Edouard-Montpetit.

Colizza, who has found the back of the net in four of the team's five league games, opened the scoring only 5:59 after the initial puck drop. She later set up the game's final marker, scored by Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean, Que., with 2:08 remaining in the contest. A fifth year forward working on a master's degree in kinesiology, Colizza leads the team with five goals, one shy of her single-season personal best, achieved in her freshman year. She ranks third in the RSEQ scoring race with nine points, already surpassing her previous best campaign, when she collected eight points in 18 games.

Rounding out the scoring for McGill was defenceman Lydia MacLellan, with the game-winner midway through the second period, and forward Makenzie McCallum late in the third.

The lone marksman for BU was Majorie Bolduc, who tied the score at 1-1 in the first.

McGill (5-0) will host the visiting Montreal Carabins (2-3) on Sunday (Nov. 14) at 2 p.m., while the Gaiters (1-4) will host Carleton (2-3) the same day at 3:30 p.m.
