MONTREAL –
Julien Tessier of St. Marc des Carrieres, Que., scored twice as the visiting UQTR Patriotes came away with a 4-3 victory over McGill in men's preseason hockey, Saturday, at McConnell Arena.
UQTR's power-play was lethal, going 2-for-3 against the Redbirds, who in turn went 0-for-4.
It was a role reversal from the previous night, where McGill had doubled the Patriotes 4-2 on the scoreboard in Trois-Rivieres, going 1-for-3, while the Pats went 0-for-6.
Tessier put the visitors ahead 1-0 early in the game and later put his troops ahead 3-2 midway through the second frame.
McGill knotted the score twice, with St. Lawrence University transfer
Andrew McIntyre of Kitchener, Ont., tying the game at 1-1 in the first and veteran
Keanu Yamamoto of Spokane, Wash., making it 2-2 at the 31 second mark of the middle period. Sophomore defenceman
William Cyr of St. Constant, Que., also gave the Redbirds a shot in the arm when he connected at 6:19 of the final period to narrow the gap to 4-3.
Other marksmen for UQTR were
Felix Lauzon and
Jordan Martel, who was credited with the game-winner on the power-play, only 52 seconds into the final period.
Both teams fired 31 shots at each other.
Tristan Cote-Cazenave started for the Pats and kicked out 16 of 18 shots before being relieved midway through the second period.
Jonathan Brisson played the final 30:54 and was credited with the win, saving 12 of 13.
Between the pipes for McGill was freshman
Lucas Pfeil of Owen Sound, Ont., who saved 27 of 31 shots and took the loss.
McGill, which posted a 3-3 record in preseason play, will now prepare to open their 145th season, when they travel across town to confront Concordia at the Ed Meagher Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
UQTR went 2-2 in the preseason and will now open their OUA schedule at Concordia on Nov. 5.
