MONTREAL –
Christiana Colizza scored twice as McGill blanked the Universite de Montreal 2-0 in women's hockey preseason play at McConnell Arena, Sunday.
The result avenged McGill's 4-3 loss to the Carabins on Oct. 2 at the Theresa Humes Tournament.
A native of Sault Ste, Marie, Ont., who was raised in Ottawa, Colizza scored the game-winner at 7:33 of the first period. The 21-year-old master's student then added an insurance marker at 17:59 of the middle stanza. Colizza, who currently leads the team with six goals in seven preseason contests, now has 19 career markers in 107 games overall since joining the Martlets in 2017.
Both goals were assisted by linemate
Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean, Que. Also meriting a helper on the last scoring play was senior forward
Marika Labrecque of Lac Etchemin, Que.
McGill had a 26-15 edge in shots and both teams went 0-for-2 on the power-play.
Tricia Deguire, a fifth-year netminder from Sherbrooke, Que., made 15 saves for the shutout. It was her 27th goose egg in 134 games overall with the Martlets. Taking the loss between the pipes for U de M was
Aube Racine who made 24 saves.
The Martlets now own a 55-30 overall record in 85-lifetime meetings since Montreal initiated their program in 2009.  McGill finished their preseason schedule with a 4-3 record, while the Carabins were 3-4. The bitter rivals, based on opposite slopes of Mt. Royal, will cross paths again in the RSEQ season opener on Oct.29 at CEPSUM Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
