MONTREAL –
Jacob Salvail scored two touchdowns and
Olivier Roy passed for 346 a pair of TDs as Concordia handed visiting McGill a 31-3 loss in RSEQ football, Saturday.
McGill dropped to 1-6, two points behind fourth-place Sherbrooke (2-5) and will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
The Stingers led 7-0 after the first quarter, 21-3 at halftime and 31-3 after three.
With one week remaining before post-season play, the Stingers improved to 4-3 -- their highest win total since going 4-4 in 2016 -- and clinched at least third place in the five-team Quebec league. Concordia registered 26 first downs and generated 403 yards of net offence, compared to 12 and 224, respectively, by the Redbirds.
Roy was 22-for-36 passing and rushed five times for 28 yards. Salvail caught three balls for 25 yards and rushed once for a five-yard major.
Quarterback
Jacob Samuels, a surprise starter for McGill, completed 13 of 21 passes for 120 yards. He was the victim of a number of dropped passes and relieved in the fourth quarter by
Dimitrios Sinodinos, who went 4-for-6 passing, for 51 yards and one interception.
McGill's only scoring came from the foot of place-kicker
Antoine Couture, who went 1-for-3 on his field-goal attempts, making a 15-yarder and missing from distances of 38 and 33 yards.
The Redbirds will pay tribute to their graduating seniors when they host the Montreal Carabins in the season finale on Friday, Oct. 29 in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Percival Molson Stadium.
