TORONTO -- Rookie
Victoria Iannotti registered a team-high 19 points as the McGill women's volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over McMaster on Day 2 of the National Invitational Tournament at U of T's Goldring Centre, Saturday.
After falling behind 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, the Martlets roared back to win the final two sets 25-13 and 15-13 in a two-hour contest.
McGill had a 44-42 edge in kills and a 127-119 advantage in digs, while McMaster had the upper-hand in service aces (8-7) and stuff blocks (18-14).
Iannotti, a 5-foot-8 power-hitter from St. Laurent, Que., collected 14 kills, one ace and four blocks, to go along with 14 digs.
Teammates
Maryam Robitaille of Terrebonne, Que., and
Elisabeth Perrault of Laval, Que., also reached double digits with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Setter
Andreanne Tremblay, a junior from Longueuil, Que., collected 29 of the team's 35 assists, to go along with 13 digs, four kills and one block. Team captain
Rowan Fletcher of Montreal West, posted a game-high 40 digs. She also had three kills, one ace, a pair of blocks and four assists.
McMaster senior
Jessie Nairn of Oakville, Ont., tallied a game-high 30 points, primarily on the strength of 22 kills, in a losing cause.
McGill, which improved to 14-11 overall, can sweep the three-day tourney with a victory over the No.4-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues (12-6) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
McMaster (11-13) finishes with a 1-1 record in the tourney and will resume OUA play with a pair of home games against Lakehead, Jan. 10-11.
