MONTREAL -- The McGill University Martlets schedule has been released for 2019-20, a season that will mark the 100th anniversary of the first intercollegiate women's basketball game in Canada.
McGill defeated Queen's 21-16 in that inaugural contest, played in Montreal on Feb. 6, 1920. To mark that event, the two teams will tip-off the 2019-20 campaign with a non-conference centennial confrontation at Love Competition Hall on Oct. 5.
It will be the first of 25 scheduled games for the Martlets, prior to playoffs. Other preseason opponents include Ryerson, the University of Northern British Columbia, Ottawa, Acadia and Carleton, in addition to three games at Ryerson's Darcel Wright Memorial Classic (Oct. 18-20). The first of 16 RSEQ regular season games is slated for Nov.7 versus visiting conference champion Laval, which posted a silver-medal finish at the U SPORTS Final Eight last spring.
