MONTREAL -- The UQAM Citadins rallied from an 18-point deficit to shock McGill 79-75 in a key men's basketball game at the Centre Sportif, Thursday. The result created a deadlock between the crosstown rivals for second place in the league standings. Both teams own an 8-7 record with one game left to play before playoffs. McGill will host fifth-place Laval (5-10) on Saturday, while UQAM hosts Bishop's (6-9) in a fight for the last playoff berth..
The game featured nine lead changes and nine players who reached double digits, including three who registered "double-doubles".
McGill appeared in full control with an 18-10 lead after the opening quarter and stretched that to 35-18 when
Anthony Fisiru nailed a jump shot with 3:18 remaining in the second stanza, but the Citadins came-from-behind in stunning fashion. They reduced the deficit to 38-31 at halftime, then outscored McGill -- which owns the conference's best defensive record -- 22-19 in the third and 26-18 in the final quarter.
Ibrahima Sylla and
Christopher Adu paced UQAM with 14 points apiece, while
Alix Lochard added 13 points and a dozen rebounds and
Jerry Joseph had 11 and 10, respectively. Teammate
Hugo Adin also contributed 11 points.
Leading the way for the Redmen was
Noah Daoust with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Other leading players included the aforementioned
Fisiru (14 pts, 9 rbs),
Jamal Mayali (12 pts), and
Avery Cadogan (11).
