No.7 ranked McGill tripped by hockey Stingers in overtime

MONTREAL -- Freshman Tyler Hylland of Mercier, Que., scored an unassisted power-play goal at 2:35 of overtime as Concordia rallied fro a 3-2 home-ice win against McGill in OUA regular season action at the Ed Meagher Arena, Saturday.

McGill dropped to a 43-17-2 lifetime record against Concordia, including an 0-1-3 winless streak in the last four meetings dating back to a 6-3 victory at McConnell Arena on Nov. 9, 2018.

A 2-0 lead – courtesy of McGill defenceman Nikolas Brouillard and centre Keanu Yamamoto – failed to hold off the Stingers who were lethal on the power-play, where they went 3-for-6. McGill's PP was 1-for-8, including a unsuccessful two-man-advantage with five minutes to go in the third period.

Concordia's Jean-Philippe Beaulieu scored -- while Antoine Dufort-Plante was serving a tripping penalty -- at 18:47 of the second period reducing McGill's lead to 2-1. Then, sophomore Bradley Lalonde netted the equalizer at 11:17 of the third while Yamamoto was also serving a tripping infraction.

Hylland, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound left-winger, netted his OT winner just 77 seconds after senior Michael Cramarossa was sent to the penalty box for slashing.

Former Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Marc-Antoine Turcotte recorded 27 saves for Concordia, many of them spectacular, while McGill's Louis-Philip Guindon made 23 saves in the loss. McGill which had a 15-6 shots margin in the third period, failed to test Turcotte during overtime.

Both sides travel to Ontario next week. McGill (0-1-1) is still looking for its first regular season win under new bench boss Liam Heelis. They will get their next chance with a pair of back-to-back games at Windsor (1-0-0), Oct. 11-12. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. starts and will be streamed on OUA-TV. Meanwhile, Concordia (1-1-0) plays at Queen's (1-1-0) on Oct. 11.
