Zach Finkelstein scattered eight hits and collected the victory as McGill defeated Concordia 5-3 in the first game of an opening day doubleheader the Canadian National Invitational Baseball Tournament at the Ajax Sportsplex, Friday.
Concordia opened the scoring in the top of the second but McGill raored back with three in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. They added a pair of runs in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead and the Stingers added two in the fifth inning.
Finkelstein allowed three runs over 6.1 innings, striking out five and walking three.
Sam Greene threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen to earn the save for McGill.
Concordia starter
George Kryiazopoulos took the loss. He allowed eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out one, walking four and hitting one.
Both sides had eight hits on the day.
Matthew Rachman and
Emerson Dohm each led McGill with two hits apiece.
Stephen Sitaras went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Concordia in hits. The Stingers (0-1) plays Laurier at 6:30 pm.
McGill (1-0) plays Acadia (0-2) in the second game on Friday at 2 p.m. The Axemen dropped their opener 6-0 to Guelph.
