MONTREAL --
David Coté kicked four field-goals and tallied 15 points as No.3-ranked Laval overwhelmed McGill 39-3 in RSEQ football at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.
It was Laval's 30th consecutive victory over McGill (1-4) since the last Rouge et Or setback in 2001. The defending national champs, who sit second in the RSEQ conference with a 5-1 record, led 10-0 after the opening quarter, 29-0 at halftime and 37-0 after three.
Kickers accounted for 24 of the 42 points scored in the contest.
Coté was 4-for-4 on field-goals, nailing distances of 13, 23, 13 and 22 yards. He added a pair of conversions, one on a 67-yard fumble recovery for touchdown by
Maxym Lavallée that put Laval ahead 10-0 at 11:03 of the first quarter. The other came after
Antoine Dansereau-Leclerc's 71-yard punt return TD upped the score to 29-0 with just 23 seconds remaining before the halftime break.
The Rouge et Or added six more points on three safety touches conceded by McGill in an attempt to obtain better field position.
McGill's only scoring play occurred on a 16-yard field-goal by
Findlay Brown, a play which broke the shutout attempt early in the final stanza. the senior from Winnipeg averaged 37.6 yards on 11 punts and added a 57-yard kickoff.
Laval, which held a 21-10 advantage in first downs, had 370 yards of net offence, compared to 149 by McGill.
