Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Matthew McCarthey

Daoust does damage as Redmen reap reward in roast of Rouge et Or hoopsters

QUEBEC CITY -- Noah Daoust of Dorval, Que., tallied 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds as No. 10 ranked McGill defeated Laval 67-57 in RSEQ men's basketball at the Centre PEPS, Saturday.

It was McGill's eight consecutive victory over Laval -- and 24th in the last 28 confrontations -- for McGill, which boasts a 69-56 head-to-head record, dating all the way back to the 1995-96 season.

McGill led 22-12 after the first quarter, 32-23 at halftime and 53-37 after three. Laval out-pointed the Redmen 20-14 in the final stanza.

The game featured 32 turnovers split equally, the Redmen had a 30-25 advantage in rebounds and an 11-7 edge in steals

Daoust, a 6-foot-7, 221-pound forward, shot a superb 7-for-10 from the field, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. The 23-year-old industrial relations senior drained both free-throw attempts and was credited with one assist.

He was one of three Redmen to reach double digits, along with freshman Anthony Fisiru from Gatineau, Que., and senior Alex Paquin of Candiac, Que., each of whom pocketed a dozen points. Teammates Avery Cadogan of Winnipeg and Levi Londole from LaSalle, Que., each added seven points.

Leading the way for Laval was Alexandre Leclerc, who registered a whopping 27 points in a losing cause, and Christophe Parent with nine.

McGill shot 49.1 per cent from the field (27/55), 5-for-17 from the arc and 8-for-14 from the charity stripe. The Rouge et Or, on the other hand, shot 35.0 per cent (21/60) and  22.6 (7/31), respectively, in addition to eight of 16 freebies.

McGill (2-0) will host Bishop's (1-0) on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m., while Laval (0-2) plays at UQAM (0-2) on Nov. 17.
