MONTREAL --
Claire Vercheval of Ste. Julie, Que., scored a game-high 19 points as McGill University defeated the
Université du Québec à Montréal 3-2 in RSEQ women's volleyball at the Centre sportif de l'UQAM, Sunday. The set scores were 29-27, 25-17, 21-25, 17-25 and 15-9 in an epic battle that took two hours and four minutes to play.
The victory improved McGill's unblemished record to 4-0 in league play and their regular season win streak now stands at five, including the final game last season.
Vercheval, a 6-foot-1 power-hitter, registered her points on 13 kills, three aces and three stuff blocks. The physical education junior also contributed 18 digs on defence.
Also reaching double figures in scoring was junior power-hitter
Charlene Robitaille of Mont St. Grégoire, Que., who scored 15 points on 11 kills and four blocks, to go along with four digs.
Andreanne Tremblay, a 5-foot-10 setter from Longueuil, Que., registered a game-high 37 assists. The occupational therapy sophomore also contributed three kills (on five balls), one ace and 11 digs.
McGill (4-0) will now focus on an upcoming first-place showdown when they host the Montreal Carabins (4-0) at Love Competition Hall on Friday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. UQAM, which sits in fourth place at 1-2, will host Laval (2-1) in the league's other matchup on Nov. 2.
