Jared Kersh doubled in
Jonathan Duforest for the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning as McGill rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Carleton Ravens to take the opener of a doubleheader at Gary Carter Field on Saturday.
The result extended McGill's regular-season win streak to 22 games in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association play, dating back to last season.
McGill ace
Phil Saad, who pitched his third consecutive complete game, improved his record to 3-0. He allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. Saad, who leads the league with 34 strikeouts, threw 115 pitches, 76 for strikes.
Carleton opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, when
Manny Restrepo stroked an RBI single to left on a 3-2 count, cashing in
Ty Burnside, who had singled and moved to second base on a balk.

McGill tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth when
Rocky Hroch singled in
Camden Lawhead, who had singled and advanced to second on a sarifice bunt by
Benji Kaiserman.
In the decisive fifth, Duforest drew a leadoff walk and came around to score the winning run on Kersh's double to right field on the first pitch he saw.
Troy Clarke started on the mound for Carleton, allowing no runs on four hits over three innings. He was relieved by
Derek Harkin, who took the loss. Harkin went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one.
Lawhead and Kersh each collected multiple hits for McGill, which finished with seven hits in the game.
McGill (12-0) and carleton (8-6) were slated to begin Game 2 of the doubleheader at 3 p.m., with
Rocky Hroch slated to go up against Ravens starter
Ryan Burnside.
