COTE St. LUC, Que. ---
Benji Kaiserman delivered at the plate and
Henry Dennis pitched a complete game as McGill returned to their winning ways with an 11-1 rout over the Concordia Stingers in Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association play at Gary Carter Field in Trudeau Park, Thursday.
The Redmen, who initially saw their 21-game win streak snapped in an apparent 10-3 loss on Tuesday against a fortified Universite de Montreal squad, had a reprieve on Wednesday as UdeM has forfeited six games and been ruled ineligible for playoffs due to eligibility issues. The 10-3 win over McGill becomes a 7-0 victory for the Redmen, so the team's regular season win streak is still alive and kicking at 22 games, dating back to a 7-4 loss at Ottawa on Sept. 10, 2017.
The Redmen, who outhit Concordia 9-5, led 2-0 in the first inning, 3-0 after two and 5-1 after four before exploding for five runs in the fifth and adding another in the sixth.
Kaiserman, a 21-year-old native of Los Angeles who played at second base and batted ninth, was 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk. The psychology junior also had three runs batted in, scored twice and had one stolen base.
Dennis, a history junior from Scarborough, Ont., earned the win for McGill, improving to 2-0 on the season. The six-foot, 170-pound right-hander allowed one run on five hits in six innings, striking out nine and walking four. He threw 101 pitches, 55 of them for strikes.
Concordia starter
Thomas Loubser-Munn took the loss. He lasted only two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while walking two, hitting one and striking out one.
Joining Kaiserman with multiple hits were McGill teammates
Troy Shepherd (2/4, 2 RBIs) and
Rocky Hroch (2/4 2xR).
Miles Arecchi-Schuh led the Stingers offensively with two hits in three at bats and an RBI.
McGill, which leads the CCBA Northern Division with an 11-0 record, will host a pair of doubleheaders against Carleton (8-4) on Sept. 30 and Ottawa (2-12) on Oct. 1 before closing out the regular season on Oct. 2 against Concordia (9-6) in a make-up game from Wednesday's rainout.
