Pantalena collects five RBIs and Dennis delivers shutout as Redmen extend streak

OTTAWA -- Jack Pantalena drove in five runs and Henry Dennis pitched a complete game three-hit shutout as McGill skunked Carleton 14-0 in the opener of a doubleheader in the nation's capital on Saturday.

It was the 15th consecutive regular season win for the division-leading Redmen (4-0) dating back to last year, when a 7-4 loss at Ottawa on Sept. 10 marked the last setback in CCAA play.

The Redmen pounded out 15 hits and drew seven walks in the contest, which was shortened to five innings as the "Mercy Rule" came into effect.

Pantalena, a six-foot, 195-pound outfielder from Easton, Conn.,  went 3-for-4 at the plate. The 20-year-old economics junior collected his RBIs on a double in the first, a single in the fourth and a double in the fifth.

Dennis, a six-foot, 170-pound right-hander from Scarborough, Ont., threw only 69 pitches, 46 for strikes. The 20-year-old history junior struck out two and walked none to collect the win.

McGill jumped into an early lead in the first inning when Jared Kersh smacked a two-run double on a 2-0 count. They exploded for six runs in the fifth, ignited by back-to-back singles from Jonathan Duforest and Camden Lawhead, a double by Pantalena, a wild pitch and a double by Sasha Lagarde.

Pantalena, Duforest, Lawhead, Lagarde, Emerson Dohm and Troy Shepherd, each collected multiple hits for McGill, who will look for a sweep in Game 2, which was slated for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday.
