OTTAWA --
Thomas Mienkowski tossed a four-hit shutout and infielder
Benji Kaiserman sparked
the offence with three hits as visiting McGill defeated the Carleton Ravens 9-0 on Saturday afternoon to sweep a doubleheader and extend their win streak to 15. McGill, the defending three-time Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association champs, also cruised to a 14-0 victory in the first game.
The Redmen, who scored in each of the first five innings, improved to 4-0 on the season but haven't lost a regular season contest in over a year, dating back to Sept. 10, 2016 when they dropped a 7-4 decision to Ottawa.
Mienkowski, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-hander from Toronto, struck out four, hit two batters and walked none in a masterful seven-inning complete game. The 19-year-old economics sophomore threw 87 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Kaiserman, a 21-year-old psychology junior from Los Angeles, was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Hitting from the bottom of the batting order, the 5-foot-9 second baseman stroked an RBI double in the second inning to extend the Redmen lead to 2-0.
McGill, which had 11 hits in the game and didn't commit a single error in the field, tallied another run in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Leadoff batter
Sasha Lagarde from Montreal, and shortstop
Troy Shepherd, a freshman from Boston, also collected multiple hits for the winning side.
The Redmen (4-0) will close out their four-game road trip to the national capital with a doubleheader against the winless Ottawa Gee-Gees (0-8) on Sunday at 12 noon and 3 p.m.
