MONTREAL –
Jenning Leung scored 17 points as seventh-ranked McGill closed out their regular season with a 62-45 road victory over Laval in men's basketball at Centre PEPS, Thursday. It was the seventh straight victory for the Redmen, who at 13-3, will enter next week's RSEQ Final Four championship tournament as the No.1 seed.
The 13 regular season wins by McGill was their most since a 14-2 campaign in 2013-14.
Leung, a 6-foot-1, 177-pound psychology senior, was an efficient 6-for-10 from the field, including a stellar 5-for-8 from downtown. The native of Laguna, Philippines also added five rebounds, a pair of assists and one steal.
McGill led 26-15 after the opening quarter and 33-29 at halftime. Laval could not mount a comeback in the second half as the Redmen maintained their composure and outscored the Rouge et Or 13-11 in third and 16-5 in the final frame.
Two juniors --
Noah Daoust, a 6-foot-8 centre from Dorval, Que., and
Daniel Pieper, from the Netherlands, also reached double figures with 11 points apiece.
The Redmen shot 40 per cent from the floor (22/55) and sunk 11 of 23 three-pointers, while Laval shot an ugly 28.9 per cent (13/45) and netted just four of 14 from beyond the arc. McGill had a 39-24 rebounding advantage but lost the turnover battle 24-22.

Laval will have one day off before traveling to Concordia for their last regular season bout. McGill will have a full week of rest before they battle the Rouge et Or once again, but this time in a sudden-death affair at the RSEQ Final Four tournament in the Centre Pierre Charbonneau, located next to Olympic Stadium. The semifinal matchup is slated for Mar. 3 but times are still to be confirmed.
