MONTREAL -- McGill University will host the 23rd annual Redbird Classic basketball tournament, Oct. 20-22, at Love Competition Hall, inside the Sir Arthur Currie gymnasium at 475 Pine Avenue West. For the third straight year, the event is a women's only tourney, although the Redmen (5-8 in preseason) will also host Toronto and St. Francis Xavier in a pair of non-conference games, Oct. 20-21, respectively, and StFX will play Toronto on Sunday at noon..
The defending national champion Martlets, who own a stellar 4-1 record in preseason play, will be going for their fifth consecutive Redbird Classic tourney title. They will open against the St. Francis X-Women on Friday at 6 p.m. (Eastern). The next day, the McGill women play the Toronto Varsity Blues at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the Martlets will confront the Queen's Gaels at 2 p.m.
Tickets will be available at the door or
online: Daily passes are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Like all McGill sporting events, children aged 12-and-under are admitted free.
Both the daily and tournament packages will include admission to the two men's games, which are technically not part of the tournament.
