KINGSTON, Ont -- Claire Vercheval and Myriam Robitaille paced the McGill women's volleyball team to a pair of 3-1 victories over both Ryerson and No.8-ranked McMaster on Friday, to capture the RMC Invitational Tournament.

The Martlets were the only school to go undefeated in the eight-team, two-day event. They finished 4-0, winning 12 of 14 sets. McGill won their final two matchups by set scores of 25-13, 15-25, 25-21, 25-17 over the Rams and 17-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 over the Marauders. In the tourney opener on Thursday, they swept both RMC and Queen's with identical 3-0 scores.

"It was a good result over two key OUA teams," said Martlets head coach Rachele Beliveau, whose young team improved to 17-10 overall. "McMaster is a regular contender and a Top 10 team, while Ryerson will be hosting the national championships, so it was an important test for us."

Against Ryerson, Vercheval had 13 kills, four aces, 10 digs and a 2.22 passing ratio. In the McMaster game, she contributed 11 kills, four aces, eight digs and one stuff block.

Robitaille registered seven kills, two aces, 1.5 stuff blocks against the Rams, then added nine kills, three blocks and an ace against the Marauders.

Setter Thara Dawoodjee contributed 67 assists over the two games.

The Martlets now turn their attention back on the regular season, where they sit precariously perched fifth of six teams in the RSEQ conference with a 4-6 record. They are two wins shy of second-place Laval (6-4) and only one win in arrears of Sherbrooke (5-5) and Ottawa (5-5) for the final playoff berth. McGill resumes league play at Sherbrooke on Jan. 13.
