TORONTO -- The McGill Martlets fell 2-0 to Western to open their OUA field hockey season at the University of Toronto's at Back Campus Fields, Saturday.
Half of the young McGill squad consisted of freshman players.
Mustangs captain
Jessica Sutherland scored the game-winner on a corner in the 40th minute, and teammate
Lindsay Borrell added the insurance marker in the 55th.
Martlet goalkeepers
Catherine Friedman of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and
Hannah Moore of Chelsea, Mich., split the game in net, with both goals coming against Moore in the second half.
McGill (0-1) returns to the pitch against Toronto (3-1) on Sunday (Sept. 25) at 10:45 a.m., before facing Guelph (4-0) at 2:15 p.m. Western (1-2-1) battles York at 9 a.m., and Queen's at 12:30 p.m. All four matches will take place at the University of Toronto.
