(CIS) – The Dalhousie Tigers fought off a strong push by the McGill Martlets on Saturday to advance to the consolation final of the CIS women's volleyball championship. The Tigers rallied from a 6-1 deficit in the fifth set to defeat the Martlets 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12 in their consolation semifinal.

Although they are no longer in contention for the title, Tigers head coach
Rick Scott said his players are proud and want to earn the best finish they can.
"We wanted to prove to everyone today that we're a strong team," Scott said. "We have a lot of respect for McGill and knew it was going to be a tough match. We were really focused on getting this win and getting to that fifth-place match tomorrow."
The start of the match was close with the teams tied 19-19 before the Tigers won six of the next eight points to claim the first set. McGill got on track in the second set with 16 kills to tie the match, before Dalhousie responded with 16 kills in the third set to retake the lead in the match.
The fourth set was much like the second, with the Martlets racing out to a quick start before winning the set and tying the match. Dalhousie rallied late in the fourth set and Scott believes that set the Tigers up for a strong fifth set.
"I thought we did a good job coming back in the fourth set to kind of regain some momentum," Scott said. "I'm very proud of the girls for bouncing back from yesterday and getting a win against a very good McGill team.
McGill committed eight errors in the fifth set, and Martlets head coach
Rachele Beliveau indicated that her team needed to be more consistent. Despite that, she said the team made great progress this year, taking both of their matches at nationals to five sets.
"I'm very proud of what we've done this year," said Beliveau, whose troops completed one of their best seasons ever with a 32-16 record overall, including a 15-7 second-place finish in the five-team RSEQ conference. It tied for the second-highest win total in school history and thee shy of the team record set in 2006-07.
"We came from being ranked fourth in Quebec for the last three seasons but very, very tight and coming up and having a really good season this year, so we have to look at the whole, overall picture and not just a weekend, even though I thought we played really well."
It marked the final game for graduating McGill team captain
Yasmeen Dawoodjee, a 5-foot-8 setter who was credited with a whopping 51 assists, in addition to eight digs and an assisted block. The fifth-year nutritional science senior from Ottawa will be missed.
The Tigers will play the Montreal Carabins in Sunday's fifth-place match.
In Saturday's semifinals, the Trinity Western Spartans will face the UBC Thunderbirds, while the Toronto Varsity Blues will play against the UBC Okanagan Heat.

(SIC) - Les Tigers de Dalhousie ont combattu un effort formidable par les Martlets de McGill, samedi, pour accéder à la finale consolation du championnat de volleyball féminin de SIC. Les Tigers ont comblé un déficit de 6-1 dans le cinquième set pour vaincre les Martlets 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12 dans la demi-finale consolation.

Catherine Amyot de l'Université McGill avait 19 attaques marquantes et 16 récupérations.
Bien qu'elles ne soient plus en position pour le titre, entraîneur-chef Rick Scott des Tigers a déclaré que ses joueuses sont fières et veulent gagner la meilleure position possible.
«Nous voulions faire preuve à tout le monde aujourd'hui que nous sommes une équipe forte", a déclaré Scott. "Nous avons beaucoup de respect pour McGill et nous savons que ça allait être un match difficile. Nous étions vraiment concentrées à prendre cette victoire et obtenir notre position dans la partie pour la cinquième demain ".
Le début du match a été serré avec les équipes à égalité 19-19, lorsque les Tigers ont remporté six des huit points suivants pour réclamer le premier set. McGill a répondu en deuxième manche avec 16 attaques pour égaliser la partie. Dalhousie a répondu avec 16 attaques dans la troisième manche pour reprendre l'avantage dans le match.
Le quatrième set était semblable au second, avec une attaque rapide des Martlets, ensuite la victoire, ce qui a créé l'égalité, deux a deux. Dalhousie a rallié à la fin de la quatrième manche et Scott croyait fixer les Tigres pour un cinquième set solide.
«Je pensais que nous avions fait un bon travail, afin de retrouver un certain élan", déclara Scott. "Je suis très fier des filles qui ont pu rebondir d'hier et obtenir une victoire contre une très bonne équipe de McGill.
McGill a commis huit erreurs au cinquième set, et l'entraîneur-chef des Martlets,
Rachele Beliveau, a déclaré que son équipe avait besoin d'être plus cohérente. Malgré cela, elle a dit que l'équipe a fait de grand progrès cette année, en prenant leurs deux matchs aux championnats nationaux à cinq sets.
«Je suis très fière de ce que nous avions fait cette année," dit-elle. «Nous étions semées en quatrième place au Québec pendant les trois dernières saisons, mais après avoir eu une très bonne saison cette année, nous avions étudié l'image globale et pas seulement un week-end, même si je pensais que nous avions vraiment bien joué."
Les demi-finales auront lieu samedi avec les Spartans de Trinity Western qui affronteront les Thunderbirds de UBC, alors que les Varsity Blues de Toronto vont jouer contre l'UBC Okanagan Heat.
