MONTREAL --
Dori Yeats, a Canadian Olympic wrestler and McGill University student, received a $5,000 academic excellence award on Monday, from the Saputo Bursary Program in collaboration with the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence.
A civil engineering major with a 3.56 grade-point average (out of 4), the 23-year-old Montreal native finished fifth in the 69 kg weight class at the Rio Games. She won gold at both the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Her father Doug was a five-time Olympic wrestler.
Yeats was also one of seven recipients from the Saputo bursary program who made their mark at the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, including two-time bronze medallist
Meaghan Benfeito and
Philippe Gagné in diving and Paralympic medallist
Alexandre Dupont in athletics.
She was one of 45 student-athletes who shared a total of $133,000 awarded in the categories of academic excellence, athletic success, leadership and perseverance.
