MONTREAL -- It was
Catherine Amyot's turn to grab the spotlight as the McGill University women's volleyball team stretched their undefeated streak to four with back-to-back victories over Ottawa and Lakehead at the Carabins Ontario-Quebec Challenge, Saturday, at the Centre CEPSUM.
The Martlets, who improved to 4-0 in preseason play, advance to Sunday's gold medal game at 12 noon, where they will confront the Montreal Carabins, who are also undefeated at 4-0. The last time that these bitter rivals met in the final of the Carabins tourney was in 2009 when UdeM prevailed 3-2.
McGill rallied to defeat the Gee-Gees 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19, then swept Lakehead in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.
Amyot, a 5-foot-10 power-hitter, combined to register 23 kills, four stuff-blocks and 25 digs over the two contests. She is a materials engineering senior from Ottawa.
Aiding the offence was fifth-year setter
Yasmeen Dawoodjee, also from Ottawa, who contributed a whopping 59 assists over the two games, including 31 against the Gee-Gees.
