MONTREAL --
Marie-Eve Dorion of St. Hubert, Que., led the way as McGill swept Western 3-0 and edged Queen's 3-2 to open their preseason at the Montreal Carabins Quebec-Ontario Challenge in women's volleyball, at the Centre CEPSUM, Friday.
The Martlets defeated Western by set scores of 25-17, 17 and 25-19, then rallied to squeak past the Gaels 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 25-21 and 15-12.
Dorion, a 5-foot-8 power-hitter and physical education junior, racked up a combined 29 kills, seven aces, 7.5 stuff-blocks and 21 digs over the two matches.
Head coach
Rachele Beliveau is back for her 25th season behind the McGill bench and owns a 526-475-2 record overall in 1,003 career contests. Her squad features two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and seven newcomers.
McGill continues with Round 2 of the three-day tourney on Saturday (Sept. 19). The will play Ottawa at 10 am and Lakehead at 3:30 p.m.
