Concordia lacrosse team withdraws from league for 2015 season

The Concordia University men's lacrosse club has announced it has withdrawn from CUFLA for the remainder of the 2015 season.

The CUFLA was informed of the club's intentions on Monday (Sept. 14). During opening weekend of play, Concordia lost a pair of games to McGill and Carleton, outscored by a combined 40-1 margin. Lack of players, their heath and safety were a concern among the program leaders and the club decided to end the season.

Mike Taddeo, the Concordia general manager, is confident and optimistic about a return to the league in 2016. "With this time we will regroup and focus on recruiting student athletes," said Taddeo.

As for the remaining league schedule, Concordia games will all be counted as 1-0 forfeits, giving their opponent two points in the standings.

"It's an unfortunate situation for the league and Concordia program," said CUFLA commissioner David Fenicky. "We believe the decision is in the best interest for long-term success at CU."
