OTTAWA -- Two members of the McGill women's volleyball program --
Yasmeen Dawoodjee of Ottawa and
Catherine Amyot of Montreal -- were both named to the all-tournament team at the Gee-Gees Preseason Classic over the weekend.
The Martlets, who own a stellar 8-2 record in preseason play, finished second overall at the eight-team tournament. They won their first four matches in straight sets, sweeping Guelph, Saint Mary's, McMaster and Ottawa before falling 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23 to McMaster in the gold medal game on Sunday.
Dawoodjee, a 5-foot-8 setter who also earned all-tourney honours at the Carabins Classic two weeks ago, racked up 108 assists in 12 sets for an average of 9.0 per set. The 22-year-old nutritional science senior also had 27 digs, four kills, two aces and a pair of assisted blocks.
Amyot, a 5-foot-10 power-hitter, registered 36 kills and nine aces over her 12 sets. The 21-year-old materials engineering senior also contributed 41 digs, five stuff blocks and a 1.83 passing ratio.
Next on tap for the McGill women is their own Martlet Invitational tourney, Oct. 9-11, a four team-event featuring Toronto, Montreal and Regina, at Love Competition Hall.
