MONTREAL -- Emilie Matte de Grasse, a sophomore power-hitter from Montreal, racked up a dozen kills and one ace as underdog McGill stunned the heavily-favoured Montreal Carabins 3-0 in the second round of the 25th Martlet Invitational women's volleyball tournament at Love Competition Hall, Saturday afternoon. The set scores were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-15.

Catherine Amyot, a senior from Ottawa, added 12 kills, three aces, nine and a passing ratio of 2.19.

The victory avenged a 3-0 loss to Montreal in the final of the Carabins preseason tourney on Sept. 20, one which snapped McGill's four-game win streak. Success against the omnipotent Carabins, perennial powerhouses in the RSEQ conference, has been hard to come by for McGill. It marked the team's first win over UdeM since a 3-2 victory on Jan. 23, 2015. Including playoffs and tournaments, the Martlets have won only seven of the last 48 meetings overall.

McGill. which improved to 2-0 in the tourney and 10-2 overall in preseason play, can advance to Sunday's gold medal game with a victory over Regina (0-2) later tonight (Saturday).
