MONTREAL -- Catherine Amyot, an engineering senior from Ottawa, registered 11 kills, one ace, 10 digs and a stuff block as McGill swept the Regina Cougars 3-0 at the 25th annual Martlet Invitational women's volleyball tourney in Love Competition Hall, Saturday. The set scores were 25-15, 25-23 and 25-23.

The result improved McGill's sparkling preseason record to 11-2, including a 3-0 mark at this competition, as the Martlets advance to Sunday's gold medal game against Toronto at 1:30 p.m.  The Varsity Blues qualified by stunning Montreal 3-2, the second straight setback for the Carabins who were swept 3-0 by McGill earlier on Saturday. The Martlets have won only seven of the last 48 meetings overall against the Carabins.

This marks the third consecutive tournament this season where McGill has reached the final. They were swept by Montreal and McMaster in the previous tourney finals but are in good position to win this one as they swept the Varsity Blues 3-0 in the opener on Friday. The Martlets have only captured their own tourney twice in 24 previous tries -- in 1994 and 1997.

Among the other top performers in the win over Regina was sophomore Myriam Robitaille of Terrebonne, Que., who had six kills on 12 balls for a 50 per cent kill efficiency, to go along with a pair of aces, five digs and 1.5 blocks. Montrealer Emilie Matte de Grasse also posted a strong showing for the second straight game, with three kills, three aces, nine digs and 1.5 blocks.
