PETERBOROUGH, Ont -- Kevin Donovan, a first-year attacker from Bethany, Conn., netted a hat-trick and added an assist as the visiting McGill men's lacrosse team opened regular season play with a 13-8 victory over the Trent University Excalibur, Saturday.

The Redmen led 3-1 after the opening quarter, 6-3 at the half and 9-6 after three stanzas.

Connor Goodwin of New Westminster, B.C., Alexander Rohrbach of Princeton Junction, N.J., and Richard Klares of Warrenton, Va., each tallied twice for McGill.

Rounding out the Redmen scoring was Nolan Prinzen of Summit, N.J., Brandon McLean of Victoria, B.C., Anders Bjella of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Rufus Frost of Park City, Utah..

Redmen goaltender Riley McGillis, playing in front of his hometown family and friends, started and went the distance to register the victory. Trent's Luc Hill took the loss.

Niall Carvello also posted a hat-trick in a losing cause for the Excalibur. Ryan Gunn added a pair, while singles went to Cole McWilliams, Brandon Armstrong and Travis Szaboks.

McGill (1-0) plays Queen's in Kingston on Sunday.
