LENNOXVILLE, Que. --
Kevin Donovan of Bethany, Conn., and
Connor Goodwin of New Westminster, B.C., each registered hat-tricks as the visiting McGill outlasted Bishop's 12-10 in men's lacrosse, Thursday.
It improved the defending national champions win streak to 15 games overall, dating back to a 14-7 loss to the NCAA's Plattsburgh State on Oct. 12, 2012. Against Canadian university opponents, the Redmen win streak is now 13 straight dating back to an 11-10 setback at Bishop's on Sept. 27, 2012.
McGill jumped into an early 5-0 lead but the Gaiters rallied and eventually narrowed the gap to 11-10 heading into the final minutes.
Goodwin then bagged his third of the night to provide the insurance marker.
Tayler Sipperly of Charlotte, N.C., was credited with the game-winner, while other Redmen marksmen were
Anders Bjella of Milwaukee,
Drew Laird of Chittenden, Vt.,
Nolan Prinzen of Summit, N.J.,
Leland de Langley of Orangeville, Ont., and
Richard Klares of Warrenton, Va.
Veteran 'keeper
Riley McGillis, a senior from Peterborough, Ont., went the distance and collected the win.
McGill, which improved to 5-0 in league play, will host the Trent University Excalibre on Saturday (Sept. 21) in their Homecoming Game at Molson Stadium in a 7 p.m. start. The contest will be preceded in an alumni "oldtimers" game at 3 p.m.
Bishop's, which tumbled to 2-2, will host Queen's (2-1) on Sept. 28.
