MONTREAL --
Jake Gutman, a sophomore midfielder from Pak City, Utah, exploded for five goals and added one assist as visiting McGill routed Concordia 22-0 in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association play at the Loyola campus, Friday.
He was one of four Redmen to register hat-tricks as nine different players tallied in the contest.
McGill's offensve output, fell one goal shy of the school's single-game regular-season record that the defending national champs accomplished on two previous occasions.
Leland de Langley of Orangeville, Ont., contributed a game-high seven points, including four goals, while
Drew Laird of Chittenden, Vt., and
Spencer Bromley, a freshman from Surrey, B.C., added three goals each.
McGill led 7-0 after the opening quarter, 11-0 at the half and 17-0 after three.
Rounding out the scoring was Milwaukee native
Anders Bjella and
Rufus Frost, also from Park City, with two apiece. Singles went to
James Vickery of Boston,
Jordan Sanford of Biddleford, Me., and
Connor Goodwin of New Westminster, B.C.
Rookie goaltenders
Gordon Hart and
William Waesche shared the shutout. Hart, who hails from Alexandria, Va., got the start and was credited with the victory. Waesche, of Greenwich, Conn., mopped up and playe dthe last 40 minutes.
McGill, which improved to 3-0 in league play, will host Carleton (6 pm) and Nipissing (9 pm) in a doubleheader Molson Stadium on Saturday. The Carleton match-up is a regular-season event and slated to be webcast live on SSN Canada, while the Nipissing game will be a non-conference affair.
Concordia (0-1) will host Trent (0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 22.
