MONTREAL – Ashley Norfleet racked up 11 kills, an assisted block and 10 digs as visiting McGill shocked the No.2-ranked Montreal Carabins in a rare women's volleyball victory at the Centre CEPSUM, Sunday.

The Martlets swept the three-game set over the RSEQ conference leaders by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19.

It was the Martlets first regular season win over the Carabins since Jan. 27, 2012 and their first at the U de M campus since at least the 2005-06 season (records from that season are not immediately available).Including playoffs and tournaments, the Martlets have won only five of the last 38 meetings overall.

Middle blockers Virginie Hebert and Marie-Pier Durivage were on their game. Hebert contributed seven kills, one ace, three blocks and a dig, while Durivage added seven kills, one ace, 2.5 blocks and a dig. Yasmeen Dawoodjee, the team's setter registered 24 assists with two kills, four aces and three digs.

"It's been a long time since we won there and it was a big win for us," said Rachele Beliveau, who was coaching in her 900th game and has a 470-428-2 overall record in 22 years as bench boss of the Martlets. "We played very well and were aggressive. Our two middles did a good job at the net and our setter played a major role and was the difference. It was a real team effort with everybody contributing."

McGill had a 34-33 edge in kills, an 8-3 margin in aces and a 7-5 advantage in stuff blocks. The Carabins held a 59-50 edge in digs.

The Martlets sit third in the Quebec conference with a 6-3 record, only one victory behind the division-leading Carabins, who share the top spot with Laval and dropped to 7-2. Both squads will close out the semester next weekend in Sherbrooke at the second interlocking tournament of the season between the RSEQ and AUS conferences. McGill is slated to play Acadia (2-4), Dalhousie (4-1) and St. Mary's (4-1), Nov, 23-24, respectively.
