Won 19-0 vs Concordia

MONTREAL - Ben Uveges, a senior from Phelps, N.Y., registered six assists  as McGill humbled Concordia 19-0 in men's university lacrosse at the Loyola campus field, Sunday.

Excluding shortened games and forfeits, it was the team's first shutout in regulation time since they were founded in 2001. McGill has had two previous whitewashes but neither were regulation 80-minute games. One as a 5-0 decision over Trent that halted late in the second quarter due to rough play (Sept. 11, 2010). The other was a 1-0 forfeit over Carleton on Sept. 29, 2011.

It was a much-need defensive effort for the Redmen, who eked out a 12-11 victory over Queen's on Saturday. The rare goose-egg was shared by goaltenders Jamie Spagnuolo -- a sophomore from Burnaby, B.C., who started and received credit for the victory -- and Simon Hudson, a senior from Seattle who played the second half.

Eleven different players scored for the Redmen, who led 9-0 after the opening quarter, 14-0 at the half and 17-0 after three stanzas.

Ben Follows of Oakville, Ont., and Antoine Champagne of Montreal, each tallied hat-tricks. Four players each scored two markers apiece, including Richie Klares of Warrenton, VA, Ryan Besse of Aurora, Ont., Ian Pearson of Summit, N.J., and Connor Goodwin of New Westminster, B.C.

Singles went to Alex Rohrbach, Jack Stewart, Christian Barker, Jordan Sanford and Quinton Bradley, who was credited with the game-winner only 31 seconds into the contest.

It was the fifth consecutive victory, in league play for the undefeated Redmen, who sit atop the CUFLA East with a 5-0 record. However, they have little breathing room with only a two-point lead over Bishop's (4-0), the defending league champions, who hold a game in hand. The bitter rivals will cross paths for the first of two meetings, in Lennoxville, on Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. McGill's next home game will be against Carleton on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
