MONTREAL - Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., scored two goals and added a pair of assists as the McGill women's hockey team skated to an easy 6-0 triumph over the visiting Carleton Ravens in front of an alumni Homecoming crowd that featured a number of Olympians, at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
The No.2-ranked Martlets have outscored opponents 19-2 in three games since the regular season began two weeks ago. McGill, which also improved their lifetime record against the Ravens to 66-1-1.
McGill led 2-0 after the first period and 4-0 after two. They outshot Carleton 42-19, going 1-for-4 on the power-play. Carleton was 0-for-2.
Taylor Salisbury, a senior from Surrey, B,C., kicked aside 19 shots to register her eight career shutout in 50 games overall with the Martlets. Eri Kiribuchi made 36 saves in a losing cause for Carleton.
Oles, a physical education junior, netted a power-play marker at 9:51 of the third period to put the Martlets ahead 5-0, then completed the scoring onslaught, with her team-leading fifth of the young season at 16:23. She set up the team's second goal, scored by Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno de Montarville, Que., with eight seconds remaining in the opening frame, then assisted on Melodie Daoust's first of two goals.
Oles and Daoust, who hails from Valleyfield, Que., lead the RSEQ conference scoring race with the former posting a 5-4-9 record and the latter at 3-6-9.
The other Martlet marker was the game-winner, tallied midway through the first, which was credited to rookie Gabriella Davidson. It was the fourth goal in three contests for the management freshman from Pte. Claire, Que.
McGill (3-0) closes out their weekend with a game at Concordia (1-3) on Sunday at 3 p.m. A win would be their 44th consecutive victory over the Stingers, since a 2-1 Concordia victory on Feb. 5, 2006..
MARTLET MURMURS: Among the dozens of former Martlets who participated the Homecoming activities were Olympians Kim St.Pierre, Charline Labonte and Catherine Ward.
