Redmen Lacrosse vs. Trent (Home)
Won 12-6 vs Trent
MONTREAL -- Ryan Besse and Jishan Sharples each tallied hat-tricks as the McGill men's lacrosse team trounced Trent 12-6 at Molson Stadium, Saturday.
McGill controlled the possession in the first half, but only produced three goals due to below-average shooting in wet conditions from a normally reliable Redmen offence. Thanks in large part to the stellar play of the Redmen defence.
McGill led 3-1 after the first quarter, but allowed an opportunistic Trent team to keep it close in the second quarter where the teams headed into the locker rooms 3-2 at halftime. McGill outplayed Trent in the second half and poured in nine goals to seal the win.
Goaltender Riley McGillis of Peterborough, Ont.,was outstanding for McGill as he 17 saved 17 of 23 shots for the victory. McGill's defensive midfield units dominated face-offs and transition play. Long-stick middie and NCAA transfer Quinton Bradley (Richmond, BC) had an impressive goal in transition that sparked a Redmen offensive outburst, while Rhys Burnell (Abbotsford, BC) had several crucial ground balls to retain Redmen possessions.
McGill is now 8-1 and will now host division-leading Bishops (8-0) on Oct. 18 in a battle for the regular-season pennant. McGill needs to defeat the Gaiters by a two-goal margin at home to win the Eastern Conference title. Kickoff for the game will be 8:30 pm at Molson Stadium.
