MONTREAL - Mike Ting of Boston, Mass., scored
four times as McGill overwhelmed visiting Queen's 13-4 in men's
university lacrosse at Forbes Field, Saturday. The result
improved McGill's record to 4-1 and moved them into a tie with
Carleton (4-1) atop the CUFLA East Division, while Queen's dropped
to 1-3 and sits in fourth.
Veterans Ryan Besse of Aurora, Ont.,
Noah Miller of Burlington, Vt., and freshman
Nolan Prinzen of Summit, N.J., each added a pair
of goals. Rounding out a balanced offensive attack for the Redmen
were goals from Brandon McLean of Victoria, B.C.,
Greg Henry of Halton Hills, Ont., and
Jishan Sharples of Vancouver, B.C.
McGill goalie Guy Fox had another solid
performance, stopping many challenging shots and allowing only four
goals to register the victory.
Matt Erikson tallied twice to pace the Gaels,
while singles were scored by Quinn Garrett and
Kevin Harper.
The Redmen are now headed for a crucial first-place showdown
against Carleton on Sept. 30 at Forbes Field (8:30 p.m.). Depending
on the outcome of Sunday's Bishop's-Queen's game (Sept. 26), there
is a chance that Carleton, McGill and Bishop's could stand in a
three-way tie atop the standings.
REDMEN RAP: Following the contest against Queen's, the Redmen
hosted their fourth annual alumni game and came away with an 11-2
victory. Freshman Connor Charles of
Fairfield, Conn., exploded for four goals, while rookie
Ross Burst of St. Louis, Missouri, added a
hat-trick. Also scoring for the Redmen were Ossie Long (2),
Sepp Stephens and Deacon
Blue. The alumni squad was paced by goals from
current Redmen assistant coach Jason Martin
(McGill '10) of Montreal, as well as Luke LaCava
of Westin, Conn., who graduated last spring as McGill's all-time
leading goal scorer.
